With A Sun

Connectivity, the body and identity are being discussed with a mixture of humor,

romanticism and mystery. This eclectic selection of installation, sculpture,

video and photography shows a fascination with the idea of New York as a

center, and a point of departure for future artistic development. 

The title “With a Sun” playfully denotes the pivotal role of the metropolis,

not to mention a shared reflection on the idea of the middle.

Christofer Degrér (b. 1990, Malmö, Sweden.) attended the NYSRP

during the fall of 2010. The seemingly chaotic, but miraculously

functional city of New York enriched his keen observation for modes

of connection. His work has since then developed into a constant

and “ontologically infinite” orchestration, that fuses process,

space, medium, and content into a close-set and organic movement.

Every instance becomes subject to inclusion as the artist

 will be performing and constructing the project for the

entire duration of the show.

Kyle Petreycik (b. 1989, Fairfield, Connecticut.) attended the

NYSRP during the fall of 2010. Arriving in New York, with an idea

of the kind of work he would produce, Kyle’s pieces began to evolve

rapidly along a different path. By creating simple objects, realized pure

and simple as only form, he seeks to find a balance between the formalist

aesthetic of the ’60s while utilizing it simultaneously as a

conceptual reference point.

Sean Pearson (b. 1989, Bremerton, Washington.) attended the NYSRP

during the spring of 2011. During his participation in the program,

Sean was intrigued by how the nucleus metropolis of New York

provides notions of metamorphoses. He has constructed a piece

that attempts to operate as a sculptural mechanism. Responding

to his own human dimensions, it brings about a sensation of

transformation and functions as a vehicle for potential.
